China has arrested a couple accused of spying for the UK.

The country’s Ministry of State Security said in a statement issued on Monday that the recruitment of the couple by the British intelligence agency MI6 is under investigation. The matter is the latest alleged spying incident amid rising tensions between China and the UK.

China’s security ministry said the two arrested were Chinese nationals and members of a state-controlled organization in the country. In it, the man’s name is revealed as Wang, which is his nickname. He was recruited by the British intelligence agency in 2015. At that time he was studying in UK. He was then invited to a dinner party and MI6 took advantage of his ‘crazy appetite for money’.

They offered Wang espionage and continued to entice him. Even insists on it.

According to the ministry’s claim, Wang was initially hesitant, but was eventually forced to give in.

It is said that he later persuaded his wife to collect intelligence on behalf of the British intelligence as well. Both allegedly worked in a ‘top’ secret department of a Chinese state agency.
