Israel’s aggression did not stop at the beginning of the year. They are continuing one massacre after another. The number of bodies in Gaza, Israel’s target, ‘death trap’, is increasing.
At least 11 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike in a refugee camp in southern Gaza on Thursday. Local doctors said that the head of the Hamas-run police in Gaza, Mahmoud Salah, and his assistant, Hussam Shahwan, were among the dead. BBC.
Three children and two women were also among those killed in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis. The Hamas-run Interior Ministry condemned the incident as a ‘massacre’.
They said that Mahmoud Salah and Hussam Shahwan were killed while carrying out their humanitarian and national duties. The Israeli military said that they were investigating the reports of the incident. The Israeli army has declared the Al-Mawasi area a “humanitarian zone.” However, it has repeatedly attacked the areas, alleging that Hamas members are hiding among the refugee families.
The recent cold and rainy weather has made the situation in the refugee camps even more dire. In the past 24 hours, Israeli airstrikes have killed more people in the Gaza Strip, Jabalia in the north, and Burayj in central Gaza. The Israeli military has accused Burayj of firing rockets into southern Israel at the beginning of the new year.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority has temporarily suspended the broadcast of Al Jazeera TV, accusing it of broadcasting provocative news. On Wednesday, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the Palestinian Authority has temporarily suspended the broadcast of Al Jazeera TV and its activities in the territory due to provocative news.
Wafa also said the Palestinian culture, interior and communications ministers had jointly decided to suspend the TV broadcast, saying the Qatar-based channel’s content was misleading and inciting conflict.
The order to shut down Al Jazeera said the suspension was temporary but did not specify when it would end. Last week, the Palestinian Authority criticized Al Jazeera for its coverage of a week-long standoff between Palestinian security forces and armed fighters in the Jenin camp in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera condemned Wednesday’s decision as “an attempt to discourage coverage of the ongoing aggression in the occupied territories.” It also called on the Palestinian Authority to reverse the decision and allow journalists in the West Bank to gather and report freely.
However, the suspension of Al Jazeera is not expected to take effect in the blockaded Gaza Strip, which is run by Hamas. Because Gaza is part of Palestine, but the Palestinian Authority does not govern it.
Again, Fatah, the party that controls the Palestinian Authority, said that the broadcasting company was demonstrating the division of Arabs, especially Palestinians, among themselves. Fatah encouraged Palestinians not to cooperate with Al Jazeera.
Earlier, in September last year, the Israeli military raided Al Jazeera’s offices in Ramallah in the West Bank and ordered it to be closed. In May last year, Israel issued an order banning the channel from operating and broadcasting in its country, considering Al Jazeera a threat to Israeli security. Later, an Israeli court upheld the ban.
