The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on the terrorist attack by Zionist Israel on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, the capital of Syria.

Iran’s deputy permanent representative, Zahra Ershadi, called on the world body to condemn Israel’s violation of international law in a meeting held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

He said, Zionist Israel is trying to spread the regional conflict by pretending to be irresponsible. Israel rejects resolutions passed by the Security Council and shows contempt for international obligations.

Zahra Ershadi also said that the crime committed by Israel by attacking the consulate building on Monday is a gross violation of diplomatic principles and the principle of consular immunity. It also clearly violates the 1961 Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and the 1973 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crime.

Meanwhile, Moscow told the Security Council meeting that Israel’s move would further fuel the ongoing regional conflict. Consequently, such action should be stopped immediately.

Condemning the “flagrant violation” of Syria’s state sovereignty, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia told a Security Council meeting that Russia believes that such aggressive actions by Israel are designed to further inflame the conflict. But these are totally unacceptable and must be stopped.

China’s ambassador to the Security Council meeting also condemned Israel’s attack as a serious violation of the UN Charter and international law and a violation of the sovereignty of both Syria and Iran.

The Security Council meeting was held at the request of Russia yesterday afternoon regarding the Israeli attack.
