Foreign investment pledges in Nepal reach Rs16.4 billion

Nepal received foreign investment commitments totalling Rs3.45 billion in the third month of the current fiscal year (September-October), the Department of Industry said.

Among these, Rs150 million were pledged for 21 industries through the automatic approval route, a system introduced following the Third Nepal Investment Summit in April.

An additional Rs3.3 billion in pledges was received through the approval route for 34 industries.

Tourism accounted for the highest share of commitments at 64 percent, followed by services at 24 percent, manufacturing at seven percent, agriculture at four percent, and information technology at one percent.

In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, foreign investment commitments totalled Rs16.4 billion, including Rs1 billion through the automatic route for 73 industries and Rs15.4 billion through the approval route for 131 industries.

In the previous fiscal year, foreign investment commitments reached Rs61.90 billion. However, actual net foreign investment amounted to only Rs8.40 billion, according to Nepal Rastra Bank data.
