The ongoing amnesty for expatriates living in the UAE has been extended by another two months. The new period will last until December 31. As a result, many will be exempted from fines and sanctions.
As a result of the amnesty, illegal expatriates are getting the opportunity to be legalized. Those who were previously on a residence visa in the Emirates and are currently illegal can find a ‘sponsor’ and become legal or can leave the Emirates without jail time, fines or sanctions.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) announced the extension of this period on Thursday. Earlier, the government announced an amnesty from September 1 to October 31.
ICP Director General Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili said that the decision reflects the humanitarian aspect, which allows violators to regularize their status by exempting them from fines.
He added that it also gives them an opportunity to keep their families safe and helps violators get their full rights.
He warned that fines will be reinstated for those who violate the residence rules even after the extended period. He also said that the ICP plans to intensify inspection campaigns against violators and will take strict action to include violators on the no-entry list.
