Gaza ceasefire: 72 percent of Israelis want deal with Hamas

A total of 72 percent of Israelis in the occupied territories have expressed their support for ending the war in Gaza by reaching a prisoner swap deal with the Palestinian independence movement Hamas.

The results of a recent survey have been reported by Israeli media outlets.

According to the survey conducted by Israeli Channel 12, 72 percent of Israelis in the occupied territories are in favor of a prisoner swap deal with Hamas and an end to the conflict in Gaza. In contrast, only 15 percent of Israelis oppose such an agreement.

On the other hand, 56 percent of supporters of the occupying Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have voted in favor of such an agreement. In contrast, 24 percent of supporters oppose it.

Netanyahu and Hamas’s position changes:

Meanwhile, an official who participated in the Gaza ceasefire talks in the Egyptian capital Cairo told Lebanese media outlet Al-Akhbar that Netanyahu’s position on the ceasefire agreement has softened compared to the previous one.

The Egyptian official also noted that Netanyahu has now agreed to several issues that he had previously rejected outright.
