Heavy snowfall continues in large parts of Himachal Pradesh. Many tourists are stranded. Police there said that 5,000 tourists were stranded on the roads of Kullu alone on Friday.
The local administration said that traffic in Kullu has come to a standstill due to snowfall. It will take more time to clear the snow from the roads and normalize traffic. The situation is similar in other districts of Himachal. Along with the snowfall, a cold wave warning has also been issued for this northern Indian state.
In a message posted on social media X on Friday night, Kullu police said that about 1,000 cars and several buses stopped due to engine failure on the highway in the Solong Nala area due to snowfall that started early on Friday. The engines of these cars stopped mainly due to extreme cold. The work of evacuating 5,000 tourists from those cars and buses whose engines stopped to a safe place has been completed. Now efforts are being made to move the cars.
Incidentally, snowfall has started in various parts of Himachal since last Christmas. Heavy snowfall has been recorded in 6 districts including the capital Shimla. These districts are Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Kinnaur.
