Jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan will not make any request for his release in ongoing talks with the government, party leaders said on Saturday. PTI says Imran is ready to make any sacrifice to serve his sentence for the people.
Many say that the PTI founder is trying to find a way to free himself under the guise of talks with the government. But Senator Shibli Faraj, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and Asad Qaiser rejected such ideas at a press conference at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House.
The Dawn reported this in a report on Sunday (December 29).
Faraj said that the PTI is a peaceful political party and will continue its struggle under the law and the constitution. PTI has set January 31 to know the outcome of the talks with the government.
The ruling alliance and the PTI finally sat down for talks earlier this week to defuse political tensions. The negotiating committee formed by the government and the PTI conducted the meeting in a cordial atmosphere and pledged to continue the negotiation process.
The meeting was chaired by Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, who said that the next meeting will be held on January 2 and the PTI party will present its demands.
Meanwhile, last Friday, the Pakistan military spokesman criticized the then PTI government for its decision in 2021 to hold talks with the banned TTP.
In response, Pakistan’s former ruling party PTI claimed that the then Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had proposed dialogue with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in a meeting of the National Security Committee.
PTI leader Ayub said that on November 8, 2021, when Imran Khan was the prime minister, all government and opposition lawmakers were taken into confidence by General Bajwa, the then DG ISI Faiz Hamid and DG ISPR Babar Iftikhar.
General Bajwa, while answering questions from the then opposition members, said that every conflict and war ends through a dialogue and also said that he would hold talks with the TTP.
According to the PTI leader, the then opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif, Yousuf Raza Gilani, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Khawaja Asif, Naveed Qamar, Ahsan Iqbal and others also attended the high-level meeting.
