At least eight people have been killed after a moving car plowed into pedestrians in a major city in central China. Five more people were injured in this incident.

The country’s authorities said that the accident happened in the early hours of Saturday (July 27) local time. However, it is not known whether the driver intentionally ran over the pedestrians or not.

According to a statement from the country’s police, the accident happened shortly after midnight in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province.

In a statement, the police said, a motor vehicle hit the pedestrians suddenly at night. Eight people were killed and five others were injured in this tragic incident. Some of the injured have been admitted to hospital after rescue.

“A 55-year-old suspect living in the area has been detained and investigations are ongoing,” the statement said.

Such road accidents are frequent in China due to the lack of strict safety measures. The country also has a record of incidents of attacks using vehicles in the past. However, the police did not give any indication whether the incident on Saturday night was intentional or not.
