India has launched a new project to combat the climate problem. Name- Mission season. The project aims to control weather conditions like rain, lightning and hail within the next five years.

An AI model named Season GPT will be developed keeping in mind that earlier, easier weather forecasting, or early warning of possible weather changes can be made. ‘Mausum GPT’, a ChatGPT application, will help users to get quick weather information in both text and audio, for the next five years. If the plan succeeds, India will be one of the first countries to attempt major climate change.

The government plans to speed up this project to control weather, especially rain. Over the next 18 months, the AI model will be tested in the lab. It remains to be seen whether this technology can increase or decrease rainfall at all. After that, this climate control scheme will be fully implemented within the next five years. Speaking in this context, Earth Sciences Secretary M. Ravichandran noted that the technology could come in handy for controlling the weather during special events like Independence Day. Then, if necessary, rain can also be prevented.

India is facing more extreme weather events like severe floods, droughts and hailstorms due to climate change. And Mission Monsoon can help control these disasters. For example, withholding rain to prevent flooding or creating rain during drought.

To better manage extreme weather, India’s mission has considered cloud seeding along with AI tools like Mausum, Mausum GPT. The project will work with special systems for real-time data dissemination including advanced radars, supercomputers, powerful sensors. Thanks to this new technology, the weather forecast will be known earlier. The weather department will also know about natural disasters like sudden heavy rains.

Attempts to manipulate the weather are not new in India. India is already experimenting with artificial rain making techniques, cloud seeding using airplanes. Also to study the properties of condensing barrier clouds, to increase rainfall in the state, the government is running pilot projects like conducting various experiments on cloud aerosol interaction and rainfall enhancement in Maharashtra.
