Myanmar’s armed rebel group Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has taken control of the key town of Naungcho in Shan State. The city was captured by the TNLA last Wednesday, completely eliminating the military personnel.
One of the group’s top leaders and head of the fighting force, General Tar Von Kyaw, confirmed the information to AFP, saying Naungcho town is now completely ours.
AFP contacted the spokespersons of the ruling junta to find out more about this. However, no one agreed to comment.
Shan is a province bordering Myanmar and China. Naungcho is one of the commercial centers of this province. Most of the trade between the two countries takes place through this city. The city also houses an elite training center for senior officers of the Myanmar Army.
Incidentally, since last October, the rebel groups have started fighting with the junta forces in various provinces of Myanmar. Rebels will succeed in that war. In the past 7 months, the junta has lost control of a fifth of the country’s territory to the rebels.
