The Israeli army ordered Palestinians living in Gaza City to move to the central Gaza Strip. Thousands of leaflets with this directive were distributed by occupation forces on Wednesday in the main city of the Palestinian Valley amid an intensified military operation.
The leaflets described Gaza as a ‘dangerous war zone’ and ordered ‘everyone in Gaza City’ to leave the area via specific safe routes. In addition, Israeli forces also identified two roads leading to shelters in Deir al-Balah and al-Zawaida. 250,000 Palestinians are still living in Gaza City.
Ibrahim al-Barbari, a 47-year-old resident, told the BBC, “I will not leave Gaza (city). I will not do the foolish things others have done. Israeli missiles do not distinguish between North and South. If death is my destiny and my children’s destiny too, then we will die in our homes with honor and dignity.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has expressed concern at such an order of Israel. This is the second such order to evacuate Gaza since the war broke out in Gaza.
Over the past two weeks, Israeli forces have re-entered some areas of Gaza. They believe Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters have regrouped in these areas.
Hamas says such actions by Israeli forces will threaten the ceasefire and will not make it easy to release the hostages.
Top Hamas leader Hossan Badran told AFP news agency that Israel continues to use bombings, displacement and massacres to bring Hamas to the negotiating table.
