It could take up to 14 years to remove the rubble created by Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on the besieged Palestinian Gaza Strip. A senior official of the United Nations gave this information at a conference in Geneva on Friday. Reuters news
Pehar Lodhammar, the senior official of the United Nations, said that the conflict between Hamas and Israel has resulted in the creation of about 37 million tons of debris. which lies in densely populated coastal areas.
He said it was almost impossible to determine the exact number of unexploded ordnance found in Gaza. Even then, it may take up to 14 years to clear the entire rubble, including the remains of the destroyed buildings.
“We know that usually at least 10 percent of the munitions fired by ground forces remain unexploded,” the UN official said. We are talking about 14 years of cleaning operations using 100 trucks.
Incidentally, on October 7, the Hamas-led attack killed nearly 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages. In response, Israel launched a counterattack.
The Hamas-run health ministry said more than 34,000 Palestinians were killed as a result. Large parts of the war-torn region have been destroyed and many Palestinians are facing food shortages.
