Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in North Korea on a two-day visit. At this time he was welcomed by the supreme leader of the country, Kim Jong Un.

Putin arrived in Pyongyang around 3 pm local time on Tuesday. Kim Jong-un was standing on the tarmac of Pyongyang’s airport late at night to welcome Putin at the airport.

The photo shows Kim standing alone on the red carpet laid out on the airport tarmac. Kim gave Putin a warm hug as he stepped off the plane. The two leaders later left the airport in the same limousine.

This is Putin’s first visit to North Korea in 24 years. Before that, he last visited North Korea in July 2000. At that time, the supreme leader of the country was Kim Jong Il, the father of Kim Jong Un.

Kim Jong Un visited Russia’s Far East region in September last year. Relations between Russia and North Korea deepened in the years that followed, particularly after the start of attacks in Ukraine.

South Korea and the US are not taking Putin’s visit to North Korea positively. South Korea fears Putin’s visit will increase military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, a violation of UN resolutions.

Putin aide Yuri Ushakov told media on Monday that Russia and North Korea plan to sign several agreements after talks.

It is known that North Korea needs cooperation in food, energy and foreign exchange sectors, including space technology. On the other hand, Russia needs weapons. Many people think that a big announcement may come in all these matters.
