
922 pilgrims died in Saudi Arabia in intense heat

At least 922 Hajj pilgrims have died in the intense heat during Hajj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia this year. Many others are missing in this incident.
The news agency AFP made a numerical tally of the dead pilgrims based on information from the Saudi government administration, various hospitals in Makkah and the embassies of various Saudi countries.
According to Saudi authorities, 1.8 million people participated in the Hajj this year. Out of which 1.6 million are foreign nationals.
According to the Saudi Meteorological Department, the temperature in Makkah has been fluctuating between 50 degrees Celsius for the past week. On Monday, the temperature in Makkah was 51.8 degrees Celsius.
Most of the dead were Egyptian nationals. According to the Meccan administration, at least 600 Egyptian pilgrims have died since the beginning of Hajj.
Hajj is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Every year millions of people from different parts of the world gather in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. This year, more than 1.8 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the world performed the holy Hajj during the Hajj season.
Last year, 240 people from different countries died during the Hajj season. Most of them were Indonesian citizens.
