Lebanon’s Hezbollah group announced on Tuesday that it had launched more than 100 Katyusha rockets at several Israeli military posts. The action was in response to Israeli shelling in the Bekaa region the previous night. The tit-for-tat attacks have escalated tensions in the region.
Israel’s airstrikes targeted the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek, resulting in the death of at least one civilian and several injuries. Four strikes were reported, with one hitting the southern entrance of Baalbek, approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) from ancient Roman ruins. The other three strikes occurred near the city of Taraya, located 20 km (12.4 miles) west of Baalbek.
While Israeli strikes have traditionally focused on the southern border region of Lebanon, recent weeks have seen an expansion of the campaign, with attacks extending further north. This widening scope marks a concerning escalation in hostilities between the two parties, as tensions persist in the already volatile region.
