The United Nations children’s agency (UNICEF) said that more than 200 children have been killed and 1,100 injured in Lebanon in the past two months. According to UNICEF, the number of children killed since the war began last year has risen to at least 231.
Reuters reported this in a report on Tuesday (November 19).
The old conflict turned into an all-out war when Israel launched a major offensive against Hezbollah in late September.
At a press conference in Geneva, UNICEF spokesman James Elder said that more than 200 children have been killed in the past two months alone. This horror is unacceptable to everyone.
He declined to comment on who was responsible for the killings, saying that anyone who follows the media at all knows who is responsible.
Elder said there are similarities between the wars in Lebanon and Gaza, where a significant proportion of the more than 43,000 people killed in the 13-month-old war between Israel and Hamas were children.
UNICEF has been providing psychosocial support and medical care to millions of children who have fled the war.
