About 60 bodies were recovered from the rubble in two districts of Hamas-controlled Gaza City. The Hamas-run Gaza Civil Defense Agency made the announcement after Israeli troops withdrew Friday morning after a week-long operation. This number of casualties may increase.
Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency said on Thursday that Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza City on Friday (July 12) morning local time. So far 60 dead bodies have been recovered in Tal al-Hawa area. It is feared that many more bodies may be buried under the debris.
Civil defense spokesman Mahmud Basal said bodies were scattered on the streets. The body is dismembered. There are dead bodies of whole family members. Inside a house there is the burnt body of an entire family.
Local residents and rescue workers say Israeli tanks have withdrawn from some areas, but snipers and tanks are still present on high ground. Residents trying to return there are being warned.
The rescue operation is being hampered by the activity of the Israeli army. 4 aid workers of the UK humanitarian relief organization Al Khayer Foundation were killed in an Israeli airstrike near Khan Younis.
Incidentally, Israel carried out the terrible operation in Gaza City in the midst of negotiations between the mediators on the cease-fire in Gaza and the release of hostages. Israel has been attacking Gaza for about 10 months in response to the attack of Hamas, a Palestinian liberation armed group, which entered southern Israel on October 7 last year.
