North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Monday’s (January 6) test launch of a new hypersonic missile system was used. It will help us repel our rivals in the Pacific Ocean.

State news agency KCNA reported this information. NDTV reported.

Kim Jong Un told KCNA that the hypersonic missile system will reliably repel any rival in the Pacific Ocean; which may affect the security of our state.

Kim also said that the missile flew up to 1,500 kilometers. Although South Korea said that the missile flew up to 1,100 kilometers.

According to Kim, this is clearly a plan for self-defense, not an offensive plan or action.

It is worth noting that North Korea has launched a medium-range ballistic missile at South Korea. The missile was test-fired on Monday (January 6) while US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was holding a meeting in the capital Seoul.

The missile was launched shortly after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with South Korean Acting President Choi Sang-mok at around noon, the South Korean military said in a statement.

It was North Korea’s first medium-range missile launch since it launched at least seven short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast on November 5 last year.
