Taiwan’s top technology official Wu Cheng-wen said there is no need for a single country to control the semiconductor industry. He made the comments after US President-elect Donald Trump criticized Taiwan for its dominance in the chip industry.
Wu Cheng-wen said the semiconductor industry is very complex and requires the division of labor and expertise of different countries. He gave examples such as Japan’s expertise in chemical and equipment manufacturing, the United States’ expertise in design and innovative technology, and Taiwan’s leadership in chip manufacturing.
He added that Taiwan is ready to cooperate in the semiconductor industry and will help democratic countries play their due role. The success of the semiconductor industry did not come from a single country, but is the result of international cooperation.
