South Korea’s military chief said North Korea has fired a ballistic missile into the sea off the northeast. He said this in a statement. North Korea’s ballistic missile is a long-range missile; which is launched from a high angle.

A day earlier, South Korean military intelligence told members of the country’s parliament that North Korea has prepared for its seventh nuclear test. They are also going to test a long-range missile that can reach the United States.

Japan’s coast guard said the missile fell 300 kilometers from their Okushiri Island.

Japan’s Defense Minister General Nakatani said at least one ICBM-level ballistic missile was fired northeast from Pyongyang. It traveled a distance of 1,000 kilometers. The missile’s maximum altitude was 7,000 feet.

Nakatani said that this missile has been tested for the longest time so far. So it is different from the missiles currently in use.

North Korea’s weapons tests

Pyongyang has greatly increased the pace of its weapons tests since 2022. In 2023, the issue of nuclear weapons was included in the North Korean constitution, which was later approved by its parliament.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said that the modernization of nuclear weapons is very important. It is necessary for the country’s strategic deterrence system. Last month, North Korea said that Kim examined the test of two different types of missiles. One of them can carry large conventional weapons. The other is a cruise missile. It was indicated that this missile is capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

On Thursday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that North Korean troops were moving in the Kursk region near Ukraine, dressed as Russian soldiers, carrying Russian weapons.

Austin, accompanied by South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyeon, said Russia would send North Korean troops into battle. North Korea is said to have sent 12,000 of its troops to help Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
