India-Bangladesh relations have been strained since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Tensions are rising between the two countries. In this situation, India has announced the deployment of anti-drone units on the Bangladesh border. At the same time, the country has taken this step on the Pakistan border as well.
India will deploy anti-drone units on a large scale to counter the growing threat posed by drones from the other side of the border. This information was reported by Pakistani media The News International in a report on Tuesday (December 10).
According to the report, India has announced the deployment of anti-drone units on the Pakistan-Bangladesh border. New Delhi will deploy anti-drone units on a large scale to secure the Indian border in response to the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles from the other side of the border.
According to reports in Indian media, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the importance of the drone threat and India’s proactive measures while addressing the 60th anniversary of the Border Security Force (BSF) troops at a training camp.
Amit Shah said that India will implement a comprehensive integrated system to ‘monitor sensitive areas’ along the entire border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. He said that India will set up a comprehensive anti-drone unit to secure the Indian border in response to the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles.
Shah also said that the initial results of the ‘laser-equipped anti-drone gun-mounted’ mechanism are quite encouraging, which has led to a significant increase in the neutralization and detection of drones on the Pakistan-India border in Punjab.
An Indian newspaper quoted the country’s government data as saying that more than 260 drones have been shot down or recovered from the Indian border with Pakistan this year, compared to around 110 in 2023. Most of these drone interceptions have taken place in Punjab. However, this number is very low in Rajasthan and Jammu.
India has a 2,289-km border with Pakistan and 4,096-km border with Bangladesh. At the BSF event, Amit Shah also discussed the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) being implemented to secure India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He said that this work is ongoing. In his words, “We have received encouraging feedback from the CIBMS deployed in the riverine areas of the Dhubri (India-Bangladesh International Border) border in Assam, but some further improvements are needed in this regard.”
On the other hand, an official statement from India quoted Home Minister Amit Shah as saying, “After some further improvements, this system will be implemented along the entire border with Pakistan and Bangladesh.”
