Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting China. He will stay in Beijing from Thursday (May 16) to Friday. Both countries confirmed the visit on Tuesday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in a statement that this is Vladimir Putin’s first foreign trip since he was re-elected as president in March this year. And his second visit to China in six months.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that during the visit, Putin will discuss bilateral relations, cooperation in various fields and various international and regional issues with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Kremlin, meanwhile, said the two leaders would discuss in detail their broader partnership and strategic cooperation. Along with trying to find out how to increase Russian-Chinese cooperation, will talk about international and regional issues.

They will also sign a joint declaration after the talks. He will participate in a program organized on the occasion of 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Later, Putin will meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and travel to the northeastern Chinese city of Harbin to see a trade-investment exhibition.

Western analysts say Russia has become increasingly dependent on China to escape a series of sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies since launching military operations in Ukraine. But Beijing has rejected Western criticism of its relationship with Moscow. On the contrary, the Xi Jinping administration has praised the “boundless partnership” between the two countries.

Alexander Gabuev, director of the Carnegie Russia and Eurasia Center, told AFP that Putin wants China to do more to support Russia. But China is reluctant to do so because it does not want to jeopardize its relationship with the West.
