Indian-controlled Kashmir is experiencing a record cold wave in the last five decades. Dal Lake, one of the region’s tourist attractions, has frozen due to severe cold. Boating on the lake, which is covered in ice, is facing obstacles. The intensity of the cold is increasing every day. Public life has been disrupted by the sub-zero temperatures.
A local resident said, it has been very cold this (Sunday) morning and I can see that Dal Lake has frozen. Today’s temperature is minus 8.5 degrees Celsius.
Not only the lake, water in pipelines in various areas of the region, even motors, have frozen due to the severe cold. This has caused complications in normal water supply.
In addition, movement has become difficult due to the cold wave. Even Srinagar in Kashmir has experienced the coldest weather in the last five decades this year. Although tourists visiting the region are happy with the hope of seeing snow, local residents are suffering.
The Indian Meteorological Department has said that the winter season in Kashmir will continue till December 25. A severe cold wave warning has also been issued.
Meanwhile, apart from Kashmir, the intensity of winter is also increasing in various parts of Uttar Pradesh, India. Residents are seen lighting fires at street corners to keep themselves warm.
