Saudi Arabia has condemned Israel’s Security Council decision to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank. Riyadh has warned that Israel may have to suffer “terrible consequences” if it takes this decision.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned this in a statement on Saturday (June 29) local time.

Saudi Arabia strongly objects to ongoing Israeli violations of international law, according to a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

The ministry warned that if Israeli authorities continue with settlement expansion plans, there could be “dire consequences”.

Earlier, Israel’s hard-line finance minister announced on Thursday that his government would take punitive measures against West Bank settlement expansion and the Palestinian Authority. These measures will be taken in response to Palestinian actions against Israel on the international stage.

Criticizing Israel’s move, a senior Palestinian official said it was aimed at waging a “war of genocide” against Palestinians.
