In a pivotal phone call, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina extended heartfelt congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for securing a third consecutive victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recent Lok Sabha elections. This conversation marked not just a diplomatic gesture but a reaffirmation of the close ties between the two neighboring nations.
During the call on Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Sheikh Hasina to attend the swearing-in ceremony of India’s new government. Accepting the invitation, Sheikh Hasina emphasized the strength of Modi’s leadership in achieving this significant electoral win.
“This victory of the NDA under your strong leadership is a testament to your vision and the trust the people of India have placed in you,” Hasina remarked. She expressed optimism that this victory would further India’s progress on the global stage and strengthen the already robust bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.
The congratulatory message did not end with the phone call. Earlier, Sheikh Hasina had also sent a formal letter to Modi, wherein she conveyed her best wishes on behalf of the people of Bangladesh and underscored the deep-rooted, friendly, and cooperative relations between the two countries. “On behalf of the people of Bangladesh and myself, my heartiest congratulations on the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 18th Lok Sabha elections,” Hasina wrote.
The Election Commission of India’s results indicated that the BJP had secured a substantial 240 seats on its own, with the NDA coalition collectively winning 293 seats, ensuring a stable majority for the formation of the government.
This electoral triumph not only marks a significant moment in India’s political landscape but also sets the stage for continued collaboration and partnership between India and Bangladesh. As both nations look forward to new opportunities, this dialogue between their leaders underscores a mutual commitment to regional stability, economic cooperation, and shared progress.
