South Korea’s famous female writer Han Kang has won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature.
Han Kang, 53, was awarded the award for his unique writing style, “profound poetic prose that uncovers historical trauma and brings to the fore the fragility of human life.”
Earlier in 2023, Norwegian author and playwright John Foss won the Nobel Prize in Literature. He won the Nobel Prize for his ‘innovative drama and prose’, which gave voice to unexpressed feelings.
The Nobel Prize in Literature has a long history of male dominance. So far only 17 women have received this award. The last female winner before Han Kang was France’s Annie Erno. Who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2022.
The Nobel Prize is accompanied by a cash prize of 11 million Swedish krona (about 1 million US dollars).
The prize, which has been awarded 116 times since 1901, was inherited from the will of Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. The award will be officially handed over to the winners on December 10. Along with which the winners will also be given a medal. Source: Al Jazeera
