Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told US President Joe Biden that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration has shown it does not want a ceasefire and peace.
In a phone conversation on Thursday, Erdogan expressed Turkey’s anger over Israel’s killing of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of Hamas, the chief negotiator on the Palestinian side in the Gaza ceasefire talks.
Erdogan said the killings dealt a major blow to ceasefire efforts. Tel Aviv wants to spread Gaza’s violence in the region.
Turkey’s Presidential Communication Directorate said that apart from Gaza, the two leaders also discussed various Turkey-US issues. Bilateral relations, recent prisoner exchanges coordinated by Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency (MIT) and regional and global developments.
Biden thanked Erdogan for Turkey’s contribution to an effective prisoner exchange with Russia.
