The Israeli army has claimed that the head of the military wing of the Palestinian independence organization Hamas, Mohammad Deif, has been killed.
On July 13, the Israeli army said that Mohammad Deif was killed in an airstrike in the Khan Younis area of the Palestinian Gaza Strip. However, there was no immediate confirmation from the Palestinian group.
More than 90 people were killed in the attack on a tent housing displaced persons in al-Mawasi in southern Gaza, but it was not confirmed at the time whether Deif was among them.
After the air strike, another Hamas commander, Rafa Salemeh, was reported dead by the Israeli military. It has been said that it was not possible to verify the fact that Mohammad Deif was killed. Now Israel says it has confirmed that Deif was killed.
A day after news of the killing of Ismail Haniya, the head of Hamas’s political wing, in an attack in the capital of Iran, Mohammad Deif, the head of the military wing of the organization, was reported dead.
Mohammed Deif is the commander of the al-Qassem Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. Deif was born in 1965, in the Khan Younis refugee camp. This refugee camp was established after the Arab-Israeli war of 1948.
Deif’s name was Mohammad Masri. He joined Hamas after the start of the first intifada in 1987. Then his name was Mohammad Deif.
Deif was arrested by Israeli forces in 1989. He was in prison for 16 months.
There are numerous tunnels to establish Hamas control in Gaza. Deif worked in the development of this network. Apart from this, he has played a role in the bomb making project of Hamas. However, Deif did not usually come out in public.
Israel has been trying to kill him for decades. Deif lost an eye in multiple assassination attempts by the Zionist state. He also got a serious injury on his leg. In 2014, an Israeli airstrike killed Deif’s wife, seven-month-old son, and three-year-old daughter.
