Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the United Nations needs to be completely reformed. The world cannot be left at the mercy of the five permanent (Security Council members) countries.
He said these things in a speech at the TRT World Forum in Istanbul on Friday. Mehr News reported.
At the same time, the Turkish President harshly criticized the five permanent members of the Security Council.
Erdogan said that the future of 194 countries should not be left to one or more permanent members.
Erdogan, a long-time critic of the Security Council structure, explained his position again. He said that the world is much bigger than five countries.
Highlighting the weaknesses of the current global system with the example of the ongoing humanitarian crises in the world, Erdogan said that every crisis creates an opportunity to promote justice, peace, stability and security.
He also said that we continue to help the people of Gaza and Lebanon.
Reuters reports that Turkey has previously discussed a possible ceasefire with Hamas and has recommended that they move forward with the process. Erdogan’s remarks underscore the importance of united action among Islamic countries in his region. The call has come at the center of renewed discussions amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
