US plans to impose sanctions on an Israeli army battalion. Initially, it was said that the United States is going to impose sanctions on the Netza Yehuda Battalion of the Israeli army for various reasons, including human rights violations.

In response to this US initiative, Israel says that it will try to nullify or prevent this ban at any cost. The US has yet to make an official statement on exactly why and what kind of sanctions will be imposed. However, why the ban will be imposed on the Netza Yehuda Battalion and what will be the result, a report of the news agency Reuters has emerged.

The Netza Yehuda Battalion in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) was launched in 1999. Israel started this battalion mainly to accommodate the ultra-Orthodox Jews in the army with special privileges.

This battalion was created especially to allow staunch Orthodox Jews to keep their faith intact. In particular, women soldiers are given the opportunity to keep away from them religious activities such as prayer time, religious studies, etc.

The US asked Israel to investigate the death of 78-year-old Omar Assad, a US citizen of Palestinian descent. The country’s Netza Yehuda Battalion captured Omar Assad and his body was later recovered from a building.

Post-mortem examination of Omar Asad’s body revealed that he died of a heart attack due to severe anxiety. He also had injury marks on his body. If it was an ordinary Palestinian, maybe there wouldn’t have been so much fuss about it. But since Omar Asad is also a citizen of the United States of America, the issue is watered down.

The US State Department asked Israel to investigate Omar Assad’s death, considering his age and other conditions. After arresting Omar Asad, soldiers of the Netza Yehuda Battalion reportedly covered his face and handcuffed him. They allege that this was done because Omar Assad refused to cooperate.

After Omar Assad’s death, Netza Yehuda’s commander was reprimanded and two officers were fired. But the Israeli military court refused to proceed with any legal proceedings against them. Their argument is that there is no evidence that the army was at fault in Omar Assad’s death.

In addition, evidence of many other human rights violations against the Netza Yehuda Battalion has been found. Various videos show that soldiers of the battalion are treating Palestinian prisoners inhumanely and dirty.
