The United States and China, one of the world’s two superpowers, are in an almost confrontational position over the South China Sea. The US and China conducted exercises in the sea on the same day. On Sunday (April 7), these two superpowers of the world have faced each other around this exercise.

The United States had already announced the first joint military exercise with the Philippines, Japan and Australia in the South China Sea. However, like these four countries, China did not make any announcement about the exercise. The Chinese military organized drills with them on the same day in the same area of the sea without any prior announcement.

Beijing’s People’s Liberation Army, or PLA Southern Theater Command, said it had organized naval and air combat patrols in the South China Sea. Already, 30 Chinese military aircraft are circling Taiwan as part of the exercise. However, China did not give details about its other military activities.

Earlier on the same day, the United States-Japan-Philippines and Australia also announced joint exercises. News of the exercise came ahead of US President Joe Biden’s first trilateral summit with the leaders of the Philippines and Japan. The news of such an exercise has created tension between the two sides. However, a statement said that any situation in the South China Sea is under control.

However, tensions between the United States and China have increased recently over the Philippines. The United States has announced the protection of the Philippines from Chinese aggression. However, Xi Jinping’s country is unwilling to accept such surveillance by the United States in its own area.
