Turkey’s warning to Blinken on Syria

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned that the terrorist group Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) will not be allowed to take refuge in Syria.

The Turkish Foreign Minister made the message in a phone call with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Saturday (December 28), Al Arabiya reported.

In the phone call, Fidan emphasized the importance of cooperating with the new Syrian administration to ensure the country’s stability and to complete the crisis period smoothly, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anku Keçeli said.

Fidan said that Turkey supports the efforts of the new Syrian administration, which is working to ensure the country’s territorial integrity and security.

Regarding Palestine, he said that more efforts are needed to achieve a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

According to State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, Blinken emphasized the need to support a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political process that upholds human rights and emphasizes the importance of establishing an inclusive and representative government.

Miller said in a statement that Blinken and Fidan discussed their common goal, which is to prevent the threat of terrorism in order to protect the security of both Turkey and Syria.
