Turkmenistan President and Kazakhstan Prime Minister Bolster Bilateral Ties

In a significant diplomatic move, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan engaged in fruitful discussions with Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan on May 24, 2024. The meeting, held in Turkmenistan, coincided with the routine gathering of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), underscoring the nations’ commitment to regional cooperation.

The dialogue encompassed a wide array of bilateral issues, with both leaders commending the robust collaboration between their countries within key international and regional platforms such as the UN, OSCE, ECO, and the CIS.

Of particular emphasis was Turkmenistan’s keenness to bolster trade and economic partnerships across diverse sectors. Notably, both parties identified the transport and logistics domain as pivotal, citing the strategic geographical positioning of their nations as conducive to fostering joint ventures in this realm.

A tangible outcome of their cooperation surfaced in the form of the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway project, symbolizing the tangible dividends of their collaborative efforts. This initiative not only bolsters connectivity within Central Asia but also augurs well for broader economic integration along vital trade routes.

Cultural and humanitarian exchanges were also highlighted, with the ongoing celebration of the 300th anniversary of Turkmen poet and intellectual Magtymguly Fragi serving as a focal point. The inauguration of the Magtymguly cultural complex in Ashgabat underscores Turkmenistan’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage, an effort lauded by Prime Minister Bektenov.

In reciprocation, Bektenov acknowledged the significance of fostering cultural ties, referencing the recent establishment of a monument honoring the esteemed Kazakh folk musician and composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly. This gesture, situated within a park, serves as a poignant symbol of the enduring friendship and burgeoning cultural exchanges between the two nations.
