The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Friday that Gaza suffered its worst bombing since World War II last year.

In a statement marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, UNRWA highlighted the plight of Palestinian refugees, saying it remains the world’s longest-running unresolved refugee crisis.

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, recognized by the UN since 1947, was established by Resolution 181 adopted by the UN General Assembly on November 29 of that year. The resolution called for the partition of Palestine into an “Arab” and a “Jewish” state.

Israel’s conflict with the Palestinian armed independence group Hamas began on October 7, 2022. Since then, Israel has killed more than 44,000 people in Gaza.

Last week, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also on trial for genocide at the International Criminal Court for its deadly war in Gaza.
