US Vice President Kamala Harris clarified her position on the Israeli attack on the Palestinian Gaza Strip. He said, he will not be silent about the suffering of Gaza. It’s time to stop this war.
He said this to reporters after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Thursday. News from CNN.
Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate, said he expressed his “serious concerns” to Netanyahu on Thursday and told him it was time for a cease-fire deal.
“Israel has the right to defend itself,” Harris said. This is important. What has happened in Gaza in the last 9 months is devastating. I see pictures of dead children and how starving people run for safety.
Sometimes they are displaced for the second, third or fourth time. We cannot ignore these tragedies. We will not be silent.’
“The time has come for the war to stop and for it to end in a way where Israel is safe, all hostages are freed, Palestinian suffering in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can exercise their right to freedom, dignity and self-determination,” Harris said.
Stating that he had a “hopeful” talk with the Israeli Prime Minister, he said, “I told him about the cessation of hostilities.” I told Netanyahu, now is the time to stop the war. We are the ones who want a ceasefire, we are the ones who want peace.
The Palestinian ruling party Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year. 1200 people lost their lives in that attack. At that time more than two hundred and fifty people were taken hostage.
Immediately after that attack, Israel launched a massive attack on Gaza. More than 39,000 people have died so far. The two sides have attempted to negotiate a ceasefire several times, but no permanent solution has been reached in the end.
