Hundreds of women protested against the killing of women in Turkey. The protest was held on Saturday to protest the killing of two women in Istanbul.
Hundreds of protesters gathered in Istanbul chanting slogans condemning Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his AKP party, AFP reported.
Gunes Fadime Aksahin, one of the organizers of the protest, said, “You (Erdogan) are the government that allows young women to be killed.”
On this day, a woman named Gulizer Cesar addressed the gathering. Guljar’s daughter was murdered. Her daughter’s body was recovered last June. The body was wrapped in a carpet and thrown into the sea.
There have been daily protests across Turkey for a week. Especially on university campuses.
In addition to Istanbul, there were protests in the capital Ankara and Izmir, another large city in Turkey. A women’s rights organization posted photos of the protest.
A man was arrested on suspicion of murdering two young women one night. The man committed suicide last week.
President Erdogan initially blamed alcohol and social media (for the murders). Last Wednesday, he promised to strengthen the judiciary and be tougher on crime.
