A man suddenly entered a hospital in Zhenxiong County, south China’s Yunnan Province with a knife. Elopatadi gets angry at whoever he sees in front of him. At this time, 10 people died due to knife injuries. At least 21 people were injured in this attack. The administration fears that the number of casualties will increase further.
The Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported that it was not yet known whether the police had arrested the suspect. State media initially did not mention the nature of the attack, but CCTV camera footage posted on social media showed a knife-wielding man running through the hospital premises. A local resident told The Paper that it happened at around 11pm, adding that the number of people killed in the attack is yet to be known.
A witness said he narrowly escaped the attack and doctors were among the injured. In a video posted by an eyewitness on Red Star social media, the hospital was covered in blood. Injured people are trying to help each other. Such violent crimes are extremely rare in China, especially in public places, due to strict gun laws.
Although the law places strict restrictions on citizens’ possession of firearms, the number of stabbings has increased in the past few years.
Last August, two people died and seven others were injured after a mentally ill man attacked people with a knife in Yunnan. A month earlier, six people were killed and one injured in a stabbing at a kindergarten in southern China’s Guangdong province.
