Kim Ki Nam, a longtime official with the family of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, died on Tuesday. He died at the age of 94.
According to BBC news on Wednesday, he used to campaign on behalf of the leaders to strengthen their political legitimacy. He has experience working with all the leaders who have ruled North Korea for three generations.
According to North Korean state media, Kim Jong Un paid respects to the body of Kim Ki Nam at around 2 am on Tuesday.
Kim Ki-nam is one of the few North Korean officials who have visited South Korea. After the death of South Korean President Kim Dae-jung in 2009, Kim Ki-nam led a North Korean delegation to attend his funeral.
Kim Dae-jung is the leader who ushered in the era of reconciliation with Pyongyang with his ‘Sunshine Policy’. Kim Ki Nam was close to Kim Jong Il, the father of current leader Kim Jong Un. Kim Il died in 2011.
