Two major clashes between the army and terrorists took place in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. At least 30 people were killed. Of these, 18 were soldiers and 12 were terrorists. The Anadolu Agency reported this news, citing the Pakistan Army.
The Pakistani army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement on Saturday (February 1), that a clash with terrorists took place overnight on Friday (January 31) in the Mangochar area of Kalat district of Balochistan province. The terrorists were trying to block the road.
The statement also said, “Security forces and law enforcement agencies were immediately deployed. They successfully foiled the evil plan of the terrorists. During this time, 18 soldiers lost their lives.” Local media reported that 24 armed attackers were killed.
This region of Pakistan has recently witnessed an increase in sectarian, ethnic and separatist violence. Clashes between security forces and militants are frequent, with the latest major violence reported on Saturday.
A police official told AFP that a vehicle carrying unarmed Frontier Corps paramilitary troops came under surprise attack near the town of Mangochar. 70 to 80 armed attackers opened fire.
A Baloch separatist group claimed responsibility for the attack, AFP reported. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack in a statement.
