Heavy rain forecast in Makkah, risk of flooding

Several places in the Middle Eastern country of Saudi Arabia are forecast to experience rain from Tuesday to Saturday. In addition, the country also warns the general public that floods may occur in some areas.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defense urged all residents of high-risk areas to stay in safe places.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur especially in Makkah. Besides, there may be hail, hailstorm. There is even a risk of dust accumulation due to downward winds.

Bad weather may be observed in Jammu, Bahra and Taif besides Makkah. On the other hand, Jeddah, Rabigh and Khalis are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. And Madinah, Al Baha, Asir, Jizan and Nazar may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

Ali Mashhoor, a meteorologist, said that the amount of rainfall recently in Jizan was the highest in the last 40 years. Besides, such weather has not been observed in August in the last 80 years.

The veteran meteorologist also said that the tropical ITCZ ​​belt, which brings moist air, has unexpectedly penetrated much of the Arabian Peninsula this season.

This will increase the amount of moist air. As a result, there is a risk of widespread lightning and flooding in the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen.
