Qatar-based media Al-Jazeera stopped broadcasting in Israel. The country’s communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, said in a post on X that he had signed the order to shut down Al-Jazeera, effective immediately.
The cabinet members of the country agreed on this on Sunday. The country’s newspaper Haaretz reported that the Israeli government voted unanimously to close Al-Jazeera.
Reuters reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet has voted unanimously to close Al-Jazeera’s operations in the country.
The cabinet vote came after Israel’s parliament passed a law allowing Israel to temporarily ban foreign broadcasters deemed a threat to national security during the war on Gaza.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Al-Jazeera a ‘provocative media’. He said, there is no place for any provocative channel in Israel.
34,654 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7. 77 thousand 908 people were injured. Al-Jazeera has been broadcasting live on the Israel-Hamas conflict ever since. However, Israeli leaders at various levels have raised objections in this regard several times before. Now it is completely closed.
