Blinken thanks Qatari PM for Gaza ceasefire

Outgoing US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken thanked Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani for his important role as a mediator in the ceasefire in Gaza.

According to the report, outgoing US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken released a statement of a phone call with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Regarding the statement, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “The Secretary of State thanked the Qatari Prime Minister for his important role in mediating efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, return hostages to their homes, and increase humanitarian assistance.”

Miller added, “Blinken expressed gratitude for the Qatari Prime Minister’s support and wished him well in his continued efforts to establish a lasting peace in the region.” ’

Incidentally, after a 15-month-long aggression, the much-awaited ceasefire in the besieged Palestinian territory of Gaza came into effect on Sunday (January 19). Qatar, Egypt and the United States have mediated the ceasefire talks. On the first day of the ceasefire, Hamas released three female Israeli hostages. In exchange, the Israeli authorities released 90 Palestinian prisoners.
