Although many things have changed, China is still committed to maintaining good relations with the United States, said the country’s President Xi Jinping. Jack Sullivan, the national security adviser of the White House, met.
President Xi said this after meeting with Sullivan on Thursday.
He said that China is still committed to maintaining good relations with the United States despite many changes.
Sullivan’s three-day visit was aimed at strengthening ties between the US and China on various issues. During the visit, Sullivan met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other high-ranking officials.
This is the first time a US national security adviser has visited China since 2016.
China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported that Xi Jinping told US National Security Adviser Sullivan, “Despite major changes, China and the US can still enjoy good relations.” Xi Jinping said China’s commitment to the stability, healthy and sustainable development of China-US relations has not changed. We hope that the United States will come forward with an equally positive mindset in this regard.
This morning, Sullivan met China’s top military officer, General Zhang Yuxia, at the headquarters of the Central Military Commission in Beijing. There they talked about various recent issues including Taiwan.
Sullivan emphasized freedom of navigation in the South China Sea. China and the Philippines have been at loggerheads there in recent months.
He wished for stability in the Taiwan Strait. On the other hand, Zhang said, the United States should stop military cooperation with Taiwan.
