The actual death toll in Israel’s massive offensive in the besieged Gaza Strip may be more than 186,000. Lancet, one of the world’s most influential research and PR-review magazines based in the UK, published this information in a study.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health of the Gaza Strip and various international media, more than 38,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) operation in Gaza for the past 9 months. However, the Lancet recently claimed that the actual number of dead in the Israeli military operation in Gaza is more than 186,000.

According to the Lancet, the official death toll in Gaza does not include the number of indirect casualties in the war. While in Gaza, thousands of people are constantly buried under the rubble and dying due to lack of food and medical care. If they are counted, the actual death toll in Gaza is much higher.

The Lancet reports that modern-day wars kill 3 to 15 times more people indirectly than are directly killed by military aggression. A generally accepted conclusion for this is that for every one direct victim, there are at least 4 indirect victims. This is the calculation we have applied here.

The total population of Gaza is 2.3 million and if the actual number of casualties in the ongoing operations of the Israeli forces is taken as a percentage, 8 percent of the total population of Gaza has been killed in the last 9 months. Although the devastation caused by the Israeli military operation in the last 9 months in Gaza, even if the war stops now, the march of death will continue in the valley for some time.
