Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, has said that Sheikh Hasina has not only taken refuge in India, but is also creating various problems. He made such comments in an interview with the famous Time magazine.
In the interview published in Time magazine on Thursday (November 21), Dr. Yunus said, when I was asked to take charge of the government, I tried to avoid it at first. But later I said, ‘Okay, you (coordinators) have given your lives, your friends have also given their lives, so I will try to give my best.’
More than 1,500 people were killed and many were injured in clashes between protesters and security forces in the July and August movements. On the other hand, 3,500 people have been extrajudicially disappeared in the last 15 years during Hasina’s rule. In addition, a fascist regime was established through killings, disappearances and the destruction of state institutions.
Regarding Sheikh Hasina’s asylum in India, 84-year-old Dr. Yunus said, “She has taken refuge in India; and she is also talking, which has caused many problems for us. She is sitting in India and spreading propaganda against the government’s advisors. As a result, in the wake of the case filed against Sheikh Hasina for violence, she has asked for Sheikh Hosina to be returned to Bangladesh. Although no one believes that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will agree to it.
In the interview, Dr. Yunus highlighted various issues of the interim government. He also talked about holding a fair and acceptable election.
Regarding the participation of the Awami League in the elections, Dr. Yunus said, the Awami League will be welcomed to contest the elections; but before that, the party and its associates involved in the casualties in the student movement in July-August will be tried. They will be held accountable. If they are not proven guilty in the trial, they will have the right to participate in the elections. Those who are not criminals are free to participate in the elections like others. We will fight against the Awami League on political grounds.
