Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seeing a ray of hope for the war-torn country of Syria in the Middle East. He claims that Turkey has made significant progress without taking direct action in Syria.
According to a report by the Anadolu news agency on Saturday (January 4), President Erdogan said, “We did not set foot in Syria directly, but we paid great attention to every issue in the country and dealt with them and brought the country to its current state. Now, the sun is rising again in Syria.”
Erdogan made these comments while speaking at the AK Party’s 8th General Provincial Congress in Turkey’s Ordu province. He highlighted the current situation in Syria as an important achievement of Turkey’s regional policy.
Erdogan said that Turkey’s proactive approach and multi-pronged strategy in border security have brought positive results. He added, “Historical changes in this region are happening beyond our borders.”
Regarding the situation in Syria, Erdogan also said, “The separatist murderers will either say goodbye to their weapons, or they will be buried in Syrian soil along with their weapons.”
Earlier last month, hostilities broke out between the ruling Turkish-backed armed group in Syria and local militia groups. In the meantime, Erdogan had suggested that pro-Kurdish fighters surrender their weapons.
He told AK Party lawmakers in the Turkish parliament, “If the Kurdish fighters do not surrender their weapons, they will be buried in the ground.”
Erdogan sees the ongoing events in Syria as part of Turkey’s strategic progress. According to him, Turkey’s policy in the region is moving towards restoring peace and stability.
