Erdogan vows to usher in a new era in Istanbul

Murat Kurum is the mayoral candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) from Istanbul in this year’s local elections. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated in a rally in Istanbul on Sunday in support of this candidate of his party.

In a speech at a campaign rally, the president vowed to usher in a new era in Istanbul after the local vote.

Erdogan said, “The opposition has set Istanbul back 30 years.” But we will usher in a new era in this historic city.’

Accusing current mayor Ekrem Imamolu of AKP’s main opposition party CHP, Erdogan added, ‘This party squandered their funds while in power. They have respite during the suffering of the people of Istanbul.’

He also said Imamolu did not perform any duties during the city’s blizzard and floods.
