Fires in three Japanese cities in one day, 8 dead

Eight people have died in fires in three Japanese cities. The incidents occurred in Tokyo, Noshiro, and Fukuoka on Saturday, the country’s police said.

The Chinese media outlet Xinhua News reported this news, citing Japanese media outlet Kyodo News.

Two people died in a fire at a two-story house in Yokosuka, south of Tokyo. It is believed that the bodies are a 92-year-old man and his 89-year-old wife.

The report also said that three people died in a house fire in Noshiro city in Akita Prefecture, northeastern Japan, early this morning. A 17-year-old girl was injured at the time. Police said the injured girl is a high school student. She lived with her parents and grandmother.

Another 68-year-old woman died in a separate fire at a two-story residential building in the same city.

A house fire was also reported in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan. Two bodies were found there, police said.

Police also said three of the five residents of the house had fled and two were injured.
