At least 19 people have been killed in floods caused by heavy rains in Myanmar under the influence of powerful typhoon Yagi. Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes and seek safe shelters due to the floods. 3 thousand 600 people affected by the flood have been moved to a safe place by the fire service.
Myanmar’s Information Management Unit, analyzing satellite images conducted in cooperation with the United Nations, said around 162 square kilometers around the capital Naypyidaw were flooded. Besides, 366 square kilometers area of Mandalay city was also flooded. Myanmar’s fire department said rescue workers rescued residents including women and children trapped on roofs by boat from 30 areas in Nay Pyi Taw region as of Thursday night.
Typhoon Yagi hit China and Vietnam last week. It is considered to be the strongest typhoon in the last thirty years. Vietnam was hit the hardest by Typhoon Yagi. Due to its effect, floods have also occurred in Thailand.
